Bringing LoRaWAN® to AWS Marketplace and AWS IoT, deploy a sensor network with a single click of a button
Amsterdam, 30 January 2020: The Things Industries today announces its Enterprise Internet of Things network management software on Amazon Web Services Marketplace (AWS Marketplace) allowing organizations of all sizes to jumpstart their LoRaWAN® projects on AWS in a cost-effective way. Customers can now take advantage of connecting and integrating data streams at scale, as well as the securely routing data to their AWS Cloud, all within a pay-as-you-go model with no need for upfront commitments or capacity planning. The billing goes through the customer's AWS account and makes it very easy for any department to launch its LoRaWAN IoT network.
LoRaWAN is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) specification intended for wireless, battery-operated things. LoRaWAN allows for long-distance communication (10+ km) at minimal power usage (batteries may last 5+ years). It targets key requirements of the Internet of Things such as secure, bi-directional communication, mobility and localization services.
This new service by The Things Industries introduces LoRaWAN capability directly to AWS cloud, setting up end-to-end secure IoT applications with just a single click of a button. Next to the easy integration in cloud architecture of AWS, users will now be able to manage their LoRaWAN devices through the AWS user interface to manage their devices easily and use services of their choice for analytics and processing.
This service will allow our customers to integrate LoRaWAN easily within their current developer operations in AWS, without imposing any further overhead costs.
To drive the IoT market to its full potential cloud-based, scalable and extremely easy, access to sensors is a prerequisite. Once the data is available, IoT platforms like AWS can offer true value by providing analytics and machine learning type of features. With The Things Enterprise Stack in the AWS cloud, anyone can now set up a LoRaWAN network in a few clicks. This will further prove the power of the open standard in unlicensed spectrum, enabling 100’s of use cases in industrial and consumer markets.

LoRaWAN is driven by a global ecosystem of more than 500 member companies called the LoRa Alliance. The ecosystem provides off the shelf sensors, gateways and applications across different industry verticals. A large group of members including Microchip, Semtech, STMicroelectronics, Cisco and systems integrators are bringing the end-user applications based on these components to the market. The alliance has now grown to over 500 members since its inception in March 2015. With the technical flexibility to address a broad range of IoT applications, both static and mobile, and a certification program to guarantee interoperability, LoRaWAN® has already been deployed by major mobile network operators globally, with continuing wide expansion into 2019 and beyond.
Semtech Corporation is a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for high-end consumer, enterprise computing, communications, and industrial equipment. Semtech, LoRa and LoRaWAN are registered trademarks or service marks of Semtech Corporation or its affiliates.
The Things Industries provides an integrated chain of products and services for businesses to build private IoT data networks. With an enterprise-grade enterprise LoRaWAN Server, Hardware & Support, integrators and end-users can start building end-to-end solutions.
Amazon Web Services Marketplace (AWS Marketplace) lets AWS customers find and use products and services offered by members of the AWS Partner Network (APN). The SaaS model gives sellers the flexibility to bill for actual usage: number of active hosts, number of requests, GB of log files processed, and so forth.
